Newsletter 2

SFX Class of 63
50th Anniversary Newsletter 2, 22 March 2013

Tracking down the classmates

When we first started, the list of classmates that we had has less than twenty entries which was the number we had for the 40th Anniversary. We thought we would never be able to exceed it. We grossly under estimated the detective ability of Jason Siu who solicited the support of Victor Fu, William Wong, Andrew Cheng, Lawrence Heung and Tsien Nai Kun, the list is now 40 strong.

Take the case of Tarcisius Lui.  One day in February, William Wong ran into him in a gathering at CC Club.  William found out that he is spending half his time in Canada and half in Hong Kong and got hold of his mobile phone number so that we can reach him. When he learned about the plan for our 50th Anniversary, he said he very much like to join the event and to meet up the other old boys.

To quote Jason (15 March 2013)

Fund raising for the School
The bank account has been opened for less than a month and we have started to bank in the cheques that we have received. As some of the contribution came in foreign currencies so we do not have the exact figures until we get the monthly statement but we think the figure is very encouraging, close to HK$140,000. In terms of privacy, we respect the wishes of the donors in the disclosure of the amount of contribution, so we have named and anonymous donations.
       Bertram Hui           $78,000
       John Liu Wai Tze  $10,000
       Anonymous          $50,000

If you have difficulties in remitting because of the length of the joint names, you can just enter one of our names and the account number and that will do. Or you may simply send your personal crossed cheque to Dicky Yip’s  address in HK i.e. "Flat 20A, Tower 2, No 33, Conduit Road, Hong Kong".

Your classmates: 50 years on
We are arranging to interview Leung Hok Nin and Dicky Yip in the next few weeks by video. They have agreed to tell us what happened to them in the last fifty years. We have asked them to collect about a couple of dozen pictures and documents about themselves, their off springs, their relocations, work, adventures and other things that they can share with us. If it works, we will arrange to interview a few more and ask the others to send us similar photos and documents. In the meantime, we have a test picture shoot and here is the result.

We hope to send you such profiles in installments.

Finding out more about the School
We are looking into the history of the School and how it came to be established and how we fit into the picture. Will try to seek out a few artifacts and perhaps interview Br Joseph and Bosco with a few intelligent questions.  And if you have questions you would like us to enquire, please send them to us as soon as possible.
